| | University of Cambridge

Julia Walter was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge working in the lab of Johannes Kromdijk. Her goal was to accelerate the recovery of photosynthesis from limitations related to energy-quenching mechanisms. She studied the regulation of photoprotection under changing light conditions to improve photosynthetic efficiency. She believes that investigating the specific roles of carotenoids on photoprotective mechanisms opens new possibilities to improve photosynthetic efficiency in plants.

Julia has a bachelor's degree from the University of Potsdam in Germany and a master's degree from the University of Rostock, also in Germany. She studied the effects of calcium signaling on the carbon/nitrogen balance in cyanobacteria for her doctorate from the University of Turku in Finland. She also explored "Calcium and light signals in photosynthetic organisms" (CALIPSO) through a Marie Curie "Initial Training Network" (ITN) fellowship from the European Commission's Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS). Her work has been published in the Journal of Experimental Botany and BBA Bioenergetics.
