Gonzalo M. Estavillo is a Senior Research Scientist with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO). His objective as a researcher is to enhance plant growth by optimizing resource allocation, specifically carbon capture and partitioning, into harvestable parts in order to ensure food security in a changing climate. Within RIPE he will bring his expertise in plant physiology and phenotyping to identify cowpea lines with more efficient photosynthesis and improved biomass and yield.

Gonzalo has a deep understanding of his attribution and the mission of RIPE due to his Bachelor’s in Biotechnology and Masters in Plant Molecular Biology both from Argentina’s Universidad Nacional De Rosario, in addition to his Doctorate in Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology of C4 Photosynthesis from the University of Florida. His work has been published in The Plant Cell, Plant Physiology, and Photosynthesis Research.
