Within the RIPE project, Gjindali focuses on improving Rubiscos, specifically advancing the understanding of how Rubisco activase becomes inactive under elevated temperatures and utilizing that knowledge to engineer a more stabilized enzyme that can maintain its activity at elevated temperatures.
Gjindali has earned her bachelor's degree in biology and her master's degree in plant molecular biology and biotechnology, both from the University of Crete, Greece. She completed her doctorate in environmental biology at the University of Manchester in the UK and is currently working on her postdoctoral research in the Biochemistry of Photosynthesis with the RIPE project at Lancaster University. Her research has been published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Biochemical Society Transactions, and Frontiers, among other reputable journals. She was also the Winner of the 2019 Environment Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) in the Environment category.
