Nina Maryn is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the natural variation in photoprotection, which protects plants from high light stress but also competes with photosynthesis. For the RIPE project, Nina has identified a group of fern species with unusually fast induction and relaxation of photoprotection. She is working to understand their mechanisms for doing so to hopefully reconstitute this phenotype in crops. Nina received her bachelor's degree in biology at New York University. Her work has been published in The Journal of Bacteriology and Molecular Microbiology. Nina has also received the Daniel I. Arnon Fellowship.
