Wei Wei was a postdoctoral research associate in Steve Long's lab at the University of Illinois. Wei's research focused on using a combination of genetics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics tools to enhance and secure crop yield. For RIPE, Wei worked on genetic components to adapt soybeans to future CO2 levels in the atmosphere and worked on optimizing the crop transformation pipeline. Wei earned her bachelor's degree in plant protection from Zhejiang University in China. Wei later went on to earn her master's and doctorate degrees in crop sciences with a concentration in crop genetics and bioinformatics from the University of Illinois. Her work has been published in BMC Genomics. Wei received the National Fellowship of China in 2011 and in 2012, she was recognized for her academic achievements in undergrad (top 2% of her class). She also received the Richard Bernard Award from Illinois, in recognition of outstanding graduate students doing soybean research. Wei has moved on to the University of California, Berkeley for a postdoctoral research position.
