Hussein Gherli is a senior research officer at the University of Essex. His research focuses on using a combination of omics approaches for improving photosynthesis in crops. For the RIPE project, Hussein will be analyzing existing transgenic lines to identify the novel targets that could be modified to possibly improve RuBP regeneration, ultimately improving crop productivity. Hussein received his bachelor's degree in agriculture at Damascus University. He later went on to earn his master's degree in plant bioscience for crop production and his doctorate in plant and environmental sciences at the University of Warwick.
