Elena Martin-Avila was a postdoctoral research fellow in Spencer Whitney's lab at The Australian National University, where she explored approaches to improve the catalytic efficiency of the carbon dioxide fixing enzyme, Rubisco. Elena went on to work for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
